Modeling of transient interference phenomena in colinear laser spectroscopy

چکیده

Colinear laser spectroscopy of fast atomic beams has been established as one the main tools to perform precision experiments with atoms containing short-lived nuclei. Although highly sensitive, spectral resolution these techniques is typically limited several MHz. Here, we study use transient interference phenomena potentially improve experimental resolution. Previous attempts implement Ramsey-type measurements were by lack understanding observed line shapes. By using a simple model, provide satisfactory description previously shapes and propose alternative schemes in ion-beam experiments.

Optical resonance detection by field ionization of Rydberg state in colinear laser spectroscopy

2014 New efficient non-optical detection methods of optical resonances in colinear laser spectroscopy are described. A first method uses the field ionization of a Rydberg state populated by means of two lasers : one is single frequency and interacts colinearly with the fast atomic beam, the other one is multimode and interacts perpendicularly. By detecting, at resonance, the produced ions inste...

Modeling of transport phenomena in hybrid laser-MIG keyhole welding

Mathematical models and associated numerical techniques have been developed to investigate the complicated transport phenomena in spot hybrid laser-MIG keyhole welding. A continuum formulation is used to handle solid phase, liquid phase, and the mushy zone during the melting and solidification processes. The volume of fluid (VOF) method is employed to handle free surfaces, and the enthalpy meth...

Finite Element Modeling of Transient Wave Phenomena at Solidifluid Interfaces

The solid/fluid interface appears in many ultrasonic measurement systems. Models for the system must take account of the interface. Analytical models for wave phenomena at the interface (especially curved interfaces) are either difficult or subject to severe approximation. The finite element method is ideal for this especially when the problem domain is bounded. A survey of this subject has bee...

Transient Phenomena

The SKA's design is driven by the needs of cutting-edge radio astronomy for sensitivity and spacial resolution. However its design is also driven by the desire to explore the transient radio Universe. In addition to pulsars, the SKA will be able to carry out high time resolution observations of several classes of known and predicted transient sources. Here we consider a selection of them, and d...

Self-mixing interference effects in tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy

We report the effects of self-mixing interference on gas detection using tunable diode laser spectroscopy. For very weak feedback, the laser diode output intensity gains a sinusoidal modulation analogous to that caused by low finesse etalons in the optical path. Our experiments show that self-mixing interference can arise from both specular reflections (eg cell windows) and diffuse reflections ...
